ABOUT THE PHOTO
More than 120 jazz musicians gathered at the National Gallery Singapore on 30 September 2024, to recreate the iconic “A Great Day in Harlem” with “A Great Day in Singapore”.
Led by Jeremy Monteiro and the Jazz Association (Singapore) (JASS), the photoshoot, captured by renowned photographer Russel Wong, celebrated the vibrant tapestry of Singapore’s jazz scene. Participants included legends like Louis Soliano, vocalists Alemay Fernandez and Rahimah Rahim, and rising stars Sean Hong Wei and Lee Ann Gie.
This homage highlighted the heritage, diversity, and talent of Singapore’s jazz community, marking the 12th official tribute to the original 1958 "A Great Day in Harlem" photograph.
To mark this special occasion, a second commemorative photograph was taken with key stakeholders and supporters of Singapore's jazz scene, including Mr Albert Chiu, Dr Edmund Lam, Mrs Susan Peh, Mr Sean Wu, Ms Sally Liew, Ms Sandra Chang, Ms Karen Chan, Mr Christopher Chuah, Ms Cho Pei Lin, Dr Euan Murugasu, Mr George So, and Mr Patrick Ee. The photograph symbolised the unity and shared vision driving Singapore’s thriving jazz community.
