ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
The Lion City Jazz Festival (LCJF) was launched in 2017, with the aim of enabling local youth musicians grow in depth and skill, and to welcome new musicians to join the burgeoning jazz scene in Singapore.

Happening from 26 February to 2 March 2024, the "Lion City Jazz Festival 2024 - Dizzying Heights" features a stellar lineup of international mentors. This includes John Lee, the Chief Mentor and leader of the Dizzy Gillespie Band, alongside other notable musicians from the band. Joining them are esteemed local mentors Jeremy Monteiro (JASS Executive Director and Music Director), Weixiang Tan (JASS Senior Associate Music Director), and Chok Kerong (JASS Associate Music Director).
The festival offers a comprehensive program of educational elements such as symposiums, workshops, and concerts. Attendees will be immersed in the rich legacy of jazz, exploring topics ranging from the life of jazz legend Dizzy Gillespie to the intricate role of trumpets in big bands. Additionally, there will be discussions on the invaluable contributions of women in jazz and the nuances of jazz composition.
The festival will culminate with the grand finale concert, "Celebrating the Music of Dizzy Gillespie." This breathtaking performance will showcase the exceptional talents of local youth musicians from JASSYO!, sharing the stage with esteemed international and local mentors.

FINALE CONCERT - CELEBRATING THE MUSIC OF DIZZY GILLESPIE
This year's Finale Concert is set to pay homage to jazz icon Dizzy Gillespie, featuring timeless classics such as "A Night in Tunisia,"; "Con Alma", and "Things to Come". It will be led by Jazz Association (Singapore) (JASS) Executive Director and Music Director, Jeremy Monteiro, together with JASS Senior Associate Music Director, Weixiang Tan and JASS Associate Music Director, Chok Kerong.
The concert promises an extraordinary showcase of talent, with outstanding local youth musicians from JASSYO! sharing the stage with acclaimed artists including Grammy-winning record producer and bassist John Lee, jazz pianist and composer Cyrus Chestnut, jazz saxophonist, composer, and educator Sheral Cassity, jazz trumpeters Freddie Hendrix and Frank Greene, and jazz drummer Vince Ector.
The Finale Concert will be held on Saturday, 2 March 2024, 8pm, at the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre Auditorium, Level 9.
CONCERT - THE DIZZY GILLESPIE BAND LED BY JOHN LEE
Experience the magic of “Lion City Jazz Festival 2024 – Dizzying Heights” as it presents a unique performance featuring esteemed mentors, Jeremy Monteiro, Executive Director and Music Director of Jazz Association (Singapore) (JASS), Weixiang Tan, JASS Associate Music Director, Chok Kerong, and the promising jazz talent, Sean Hong Wei.
They will be sharing the stage with international mentors from the Dizzy Gillespie Band, led by John Lee. Together, they will deliver an unforgettable showcase, playing a series of tunes from the timeless Dizzy Gillespie repertoire.
